Le grind décalé a toujours été un terrain glissant, où les groupes peu scrupuleux sur la qualité de la musique et des textes sont légions. Les seuls maîtres du genre selon moi restant les flingués d’ANAL CUNT, ou encore les tarés notoire de SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION. Je pense sincèrement qu’on peut rajouter sur la liste à présent BIRDFLESH, qui en dépit de textes pouvant faire passer Patrick SEBASTIEN pour un orfèvre de la blague légère et nuancé, propose une musique en tout point jouissive, où la puissance le dispute au fun et l’efficacité.
Autant le grind peut être très rapidement lassant, voire crispant, lorsqu’il ne varie pas sur la durée d’un album, autant il est un véritable exutoire lorsqu’il est pratiqué par des individus intelligents qui aiment réellement le style, et qui ne se contentent pas de s’y vautrer de par leur faiblesse musicale. Les musiciens de BIRDFLESH sont tout à fait capables, et sont de vrais fans du style, le genre de choses qu’on ressent tout de suite, surtout lorsqu’on en écoute depuis presque 20 ans.
Cet album c’est l’équivalent des meilleurs gags de JACKASS en musique. Car c’est savamment préparé, rien n’est laissé au hasard, surtout pas le plaisir de l’auditeur. C’est un champ de mines sur lequel on pousse un vieux paralytique sourd et aveugle, en beuglant « Vas y, c’est tout droit !! », et en ricanant bêtement par derrière. C’est un pétard qu’on met dans une bouse de vache au bord de la route, en observant l’explosion qui entache de merde le premier qui passe. La blague bête et méchante, mais qu’on a minutieusement élaborée des heures durant.
Je ne saurais que trop conseiller l’écoute de certains titres, tels « Then You Know » ou « Arabian Jesus », pour leurs mosh parts endiablées, « Crocophile » pour sa musique aussi déjantée que son texte, les puissantes « Mr Big Head » et « The Friendly Call », les monstrueuses « Handicapitation » et « Dying Cable », « Moonwalk Massacre » pour son solo de saxo hilarant, ou encore la méga débiloïde « Victims Of The Cat », et son "Miaou" qui déchire le cœur.
Grind signifie broyer. BIRDFLESH broie tout sur son passage, les ennuis, la mauvaise humeur, les soucis. Les écouter enjolive la journée. Pas mal pour un petit groupe suédois…
