Huitième album, rien de moins, pour les Allemands de SUIDAKRA qui témoignent une fois de plus, pour ceux qui en doutaient, de l’ouverture d’esprit des métalleux, puisque la formation s’arrête avec Caledonia sur les Pictes, habitants des basses-terres de l’Ecosse, entre le IIIe siècle et le milieu du IXe siècle environ, confrontés à l’envahisseur romain. C’est donc un retour au Pagan Folk après un passage par le Death mélodique avec leur précédente réalisation, Command To Charge. Des traces de cette incartade sont encore perceptibles ici ou là (« A Blackened Shield », « The Ixth Legion », « Dawning Tempes ») mais la greffe prend bien et confère à leur musique une variété bienvenue.
SUIDAKRA, druide des temps anciens, nous propose une potion, composée à partir d’éléments Folk à la SKYCLAD (« Highland Hills »), de nombreux riffs épiques, voire Heavy à la IRON MAIDEN, saupoudrés de cornemuses ici ou là (« Forth-Clyde », « Dawning Tempes », « The Ixth Legion ») auxquelles sont ajoutées des interludes à la guitare acoustique (« The Ember Deid », « Ramble »), véritables chansons de pub mélancoliques rappelant les exploits des ancêtres et nous menant sur les pas des farfadets dans les Highlands. Le tout est mélangé par des accélérations Death mélodique et quelques gestes plus particulièrement fougueux et guerriers (« On Torrid Sand », « The Ixth Legion »). Pendant que la mixture est préparée, les vocaux, tantôt clairs, tantôt rauques, tantôt chantés, tantôt narrés, nous dévoilent une fresque historique qui prend vie sous nos yeux. Une fois la boisson ingurgitée, c’est plein d’entrain et de gaîté que tous ensemble nous allons bouter le Romain hors de nos terres, sur un pas de gigue, plutôt que militaire (« Evoke The Demon »).
C’est décidé, je sais ce que je vais commander pour Noël : un kilt.
