Quatrième album pour les ricains de KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, qui, de petit postulat hard-core sont devenus une référence du Metal US mondial. Est-ce pour autant mérité, à l’heure des multiples usurpateurs masquant leur manque de créativité derrière une attitude ou un packaging, qui ne trompent plus grand monde ? Oui, parce que là, c’est du solide. Pas du soda light relevé d’un peu de citron pour l’acidité. Là, on a du vrai tabasco, mais bien préparé, qui n’arrache pas à la première gorgée, mais qui sait distiller son piment sur tout un album. J’aime bien KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. On a beau savoir qu’ils piochent un peu partout pour faire leurs albums question influences, mais c’est tellement bien recraché qu’on s’en fout. Et en plus au final, ça ne ressemble à rien, sauf ce qu’ils veulent bien nous offrir. Et encore une fois, je suis preneur. On a tout chez les KILLSWITCH. Le meilleur des années 80, à la sauce 2006. Un peu d’HELLOWEEN, de MAIDEN, de JUDAS PRIEST, de MACHINE HEAD, avec le son d’aujourd’hui. Le chanteur est extraordinaire, la section rythmique n’est jamais à court de petites idées pour égayer l’écoute, et les gratteux sont solides comme la connerie de Paris Hilton. Alors, qu’attendre de plus ? Ben rien. C’est le genre de skeud qu’on met, qu’on écoute, et qu’on réécoute parce que ça n’est pas lassant, un peu comme un album des BEATLES il y a 40 ans. On découvre, tout ne saute pas aux yeux, et puis on déniche des plans incroyables, des mélodies imparables, des riffs entêtants, et tout le toutim. A ce titre, « Daylight Dies », est l’archétype du titre Heavy Metal de 2006. Tout du moins ce qu’il devrait toujours être. Mélodique, puissant, bien construit, court. On n’a pas honte d’écouter KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, contrairement à d’autres groupes de la même mouvance qu’on bouffe comme du MacDo. Sur le coup, c’est du tonnerre, et après on se dit qu’on ne devrait pas faire ça. Ici, vous pouvez y aller, personne ne vous le reprochera. D’ailleurs, quand vous vous jetterez « This Is Absolution », vous digérerez sans problème aucun. C’est léger, ça passe tout seul. Un break digne du meilleur PRIEST. Ca le fait. « My Curse », je fonds. C’est du tonnerre. L’intro est gigantesque, le riff fait bouger vos cervicales sans effort, on est emporté, loin, très loin. « Still Beats Your Name », ça déchire, c’est speed, mais pas n’importe comment, la cassure est nette, et le passage harmonique est monstrueux. On sent que les mecs ne sont pas là pour mettre juste un orteil. Ils plongent direct, et nous aussi. « Eye Of The Storm » a un arrière goût FAITH NO MORE, pire comme référence non ? Le reste du titre transforme tes oreilles en champ de bataille, mais bataille rangée, pas le massacre, on a affaire à des orfèvres du son, pas des bouchers en goguette. « Desperate Times », c’est du lourd. Les guitares ralentissent, la batterie écrase tout, et Howard vomit sa haine de l’apathie qui détruit le monde. Comme on est d’accord… « Reject Yourself », c’est rock, puis aérien, puis thrash, puis aérien. Ce mec à vraiment une voix d’enfer, c’est un fait.
N’y allons pas par quatre chemins, achetez cet album, c’est une tuerie sans nom, ou plutôt si, As Daylight Dies.
Quand un groupe talentueux mérite qu’on le soutienne, autant le faire. Merci papa roadrunner pour cette livraison. Mais ne vas pas dehors, tu vas avoir si froid. Reste donc à l’intérieur avec moi, et on s’enverra une bonne dose de riffs qui tuent. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, un de tes enfants justement…
