Décidemment, cette semaine je suis abonné aux chansons à boire, cotillons et ambiances noces et banquets. Après BLOODY MARY, voici venir THE BLOODLINE (je vais bientôt pouvoir ouvrir une banque du sang !), tout dans la gaieté, la légèreté, ploum ploum tralala. THE BLOODLINE, nous vient d’Allemagne, s’est formé en 2002, et a précédemment sorti un album intitulé Opium Hearts. Jusque là, rien de bien grave. Là ou je me suis fait surprendre, c’est lorsque j’ai abordé Where Lost Souls Dwell comme appartenant à la veine gothique, au vu de la pochette. Grave erreur, c’est certes bien corbeau, mais pas seulement.
Imaginez un mix global entre TYPE O’ NEGATIVE, THE GATHERING, MY DYING BRIDE et MORGOTH époque Feel Sorry For The Fanatic, et vous n’aurez qu’un bref aperçu de ce que proposent les croque-morts. La joie pure. Un best of Jean Roucas période Collaro. Mieux, Bezu à poil dans une mare avec un nénuphar sur la tête. J’exagère à peine. Le premier titre est un trompe l’œil, et c’est pour cela que je fais référence à MORGOTH, parce que la voix est Death, les accords aussi, et ainsi, « At The Waters Of Lethe » passerait presque pour une resucée de « Last Laugh ». Après, les choses se gâtent, et on tombe dans du doom ultra dépressif, alors on aime ou on n’aime pas. Moi j’aime bien (il faut dire que je ferais passer Johnny Cash pour un comique de banlieue), le son est correct, le packaging soigné, l’entremêlement de voix masculines et féminines homogène.
Au rayon des surprises, « Opium Hearts », au feeling très LAIBACH, « Abandon All Hope », union contre nature entre Anneke et Aaron (THE GATHERING et MY DYING BRIDE), « I Think We Simply Fall » très influencé par le brillantissime Monotheist de CELTIC FROST (on ne le dira jamais assez !) et « Where Lost Souls Dwell », qui rappelle légèrement le genre d’ambiances crées par le DEAD CAN DANCE de la grande époque. Le reste navigue entre plusieurs eaux, mais la constante reste quand même bien Doom, avec voix tour à tour plaintives, menaçantes, éthérées. Seul petit reproche, comme beaucoup de groupes allemands, THE BLOODLINE manie assez mal la syntaxe anglaise, et on reste sur une langue de Shakespeare très scolaire et répétitive. Un peu comme la musique d’ailleurs. Bis Repetita.
