Découvrons, découvrons les amis !! Dans la série, « je me coucherai moins bête ce soir », je vous propose BLOODY MARY, et son premier album Blood’n’Roll. Après quelques démos et bien sur les scènes écumées dans leur pays natal, notamment à Milan, qui sont le lot de tout jeune groupe, BLOODY MARY nous balance son effort initial, qui comme vous vous en douterez lorsque vous verrez les photos du groupe, ne donne pas dans la pop sautillante et légère.
Ils reconnaissent leurs influences, HIM, THE CULT, et THE SISTERS OF MERCY, c’est le moins qu’ils puissent faire. Je me permettrais de rajouter THE 69 EYES et THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE, mais bon, ça c’est perso. Nous avons donc affaire à ce que M6 appelle avec mépris du gothic rock, dans la plus pure tradition, mélodies entêtantes, voix de vautour dépressif, beat raide mais peinard, tout pour boire une Mort Subite tranquille au cimetière du coin.
La musique rappelle le CULT époque Love, ou le TYPE O le plus léger. Rien de bien transcendant certes, mais c’est joué carré, par des gus qui connaisse le lexique de la grande dame en noir par cœur. Alors on a droit à du pur rock’n’ crow sur des titres comme « Icy Blue », « I Won’t Be Unfeeling », « Little Sister » et « Before The Rain », du plus lourd à la Peter Steele sur « Cease To Burn », et du mélancolique avec « Judas Spite » et « Learning To Fly ». Le son est à la hauteur des ambitions, les zigues ont le look qui tue (c’est le cas de le dire), mais malheureusement, restent au ras des pâquerettes en ce qui concerne l’inspiration. Quand on se réclame de THE CULT ou des SISTERS, deux piliers du genre quand même, on essaie de mettre la barre un peu plus haute. Certes, l’écoute est agréable, on ne s’ennuie pas, mais on ne se lèvera pas non plus la nuit pour aller l’écouter. Faites le test, mettez dans le mange-disque « More » ou « Alice » des SISTERS, ou bien « Love », « Rain » ou « She Sells Sanctuary » de THE CULT et comparez. Ben oui, y’a pas photo. C’est quand même maman qui fait la meilleure soupe. Je ne veux pas être cruel et réduire leurs espérances de succès a zéro, mais il va falloir qu’ils se bougent un peu sur leur deuxième album s’ils veulent arriver ne serait ce qu’au genou de leurs maîtres à penser. Parce que pour l’instant, ça ne reste qu’une affaire de semelles…
