Internal Revolution, quatrième album longue durée pour DIECAST, US band pratiquant un screaming Core de fort bon aloi. Au début, j’ai eu assez peur je dois l’avouer. Vous connaissez tous mon amour pour ce style au gré des chroniques que j’ai pu écrire jusqu’ici. Ca démarrait assez mal, j’avais l’impression de me retrouver face à un énième clone de SOILWORK, mâtiné de SLIPKNOT. Mais comme d’hab, j’ai poussé les titres jusqu’au bout plusieurs fois, et je dois admettre que l’écoute fut loin d’être désagréable.
DIECAST à des influences. Les mecs ne s’en cachent pas. De la voix très Corey Taylor à la batterie triggée façon beaucoup de monde, on est en terrain connu, même archi connu. Mais bon, qui en 2006 peut se targuer de proposer une musique radicalement originale. De plus, l’originalité n’a jamais fait vivre son bonhomme. Le point, c’est d’être efficace sans que l’inspiration extérieure ne se fasse trop sentir. Et ici, c’est le cas.
L’album commence fort avec « Internal Revolution » qui nous ramènera aux meilleures heures de CALLENISH CIRCLE/SOILWORK, reconnaissance des maîtres oblige. « Never Forget » sent le single qui tue à plein nez. Trois minutes bien senties, bien pesées, rien qui dépasse. « Hourglass » suit le même topo, mélodie accrocheuse, tempo medium, du bel ouvrage. « Weakness » ne mérite pas son titre, pas une once de faiblesse, et après une intro Slayerienne en diable, le refrain pop vient finir de nous achever. « Fade Away », c’est du heavy pop comme on l’aime, qui pourrait affoler les radios US si elles n’étaient pas si fragiles du cœur. « Nothing I Could Say » est très rock (autant qu’un titre de screaming core puisse l’être), « Definition Of A Hero » nous propose une intro dans un pur Machine Head style, quant à « The Coldest Rain », c’est la grosse surprise du cd, une bien jolie blue-song qui débute au piano, pour finir dans la pure tradition power-ballad, que n’aurait pas renié un TESTAMENT de la grande époque.
Alors résumons comme dirait Pivot. Gros son, mais bien équilibré et qui n’oublie pas les aigus sur le quai de la gare, musiciens capables, un soupçon de créativité juste ou il faut, un chanteur agréable, une jolie pochette, et des titres suffisamment variés pour que l’on ne s’ennuie pas. Et n’est ce pas tout ce qu’on demande à un album de nos jours ?
