OVERLOAD, jeune formation du Val-d’Oise, est à la recherche d’une signature sur un label et cela s’en ressent sur cette galette. En effet, bien que prétendant officier dans le Death Mélodique, il semble que le groupe ait voulu présenter en neuf titres tout ce qu’il savait ou cherchait à faire. Au risque de manquer de cohérence et de s’éparpiller. « Believe In Nothing » et « Old Fellow » sont des titres, Death Thrash Mélodique pour le coup (on ne s’étonnera pas que le combo ait masterisé l’album à Göteborg, là où IN FLAMES et SOILWORK traînent leurs guêtres), de bonne facture, aux riffs intéressants, mais avec des claviers dispensables ou méritant un sérieux lifting. Sur « Magnificient Alienation », place au Hard/Metalcore avec chants hurlé, parfois irritant, et clair entremêlés. Ajoutez-y des riffs Thrash/Death et des claviers, et on frise l’overdose. Cela est d’autant plus malheureux que les musiciens ont du potentiel (« My Genesis ») et que la production n’est pas mauvaise pour une autoprod.
Passage aux morceaux longs avec « Dance In Tear » et « Forward To Rewind », chacun de plus de 6 minutes. « Dance In Tear » prend des allures de ballade plutôt sympathique avec des mélodies accrocheuses, tandis que « Forward To Rewind » fait place à des riffs plus Heavy avant de varier les genres : un exercice un peu trop périlleux et ambitieux. Manquait encore le Grind : c’est chose faite avec « Retaliate » et ses moins de 2 minutes. Retour à un Death Mélo plus classique avec « Blood’s Eye » qui se termine sur une longue instrumentale, où chaque instrument y va de son petit solo, et le résultat est convaincant. Restent sur la première partie du titre les vocaux éraillés qui mériteraient d’être plus modulés. OVERLOAD n’a peur de rien et opte pour des rythmiques et des sonorités Electro sur l’instrumentale « E-C-G », qui renforce indéniablement le sentiment de fourre-tout qui se dégage de ce « Heartbreak System ».
Avec « Heartbreak System », OVERLOAD offre une compilation hétéroclite là où il aurait dû plus se consacrer à forger son propre style. Etait-ce le meilleur choix pour être remarqué par un label ? L’avenir le dira.
