Récemment formé, THE LOVECRAVE livre ici un premier essai très concluant qui constitue l’une des grandes surprises de cet automne. Pas avares de mélodies accrocheuses ayant un fort potentiel commercial, les Italiens pratiquent un Goth Metal à chant féminin fortement teinté de Pop rendant l’ensemble très facile d’accès. L’écriture a été particulièrement soignée et l’on restera admiratif de l’équilibre qui a été trouvé entre les styles : mélancolique sans devenir pleurnichard, mélodique mais résolument Metal. On a le sentiment – finalement assez rare – qu’un véritable travail de composition a été fait en amont et que le groupe a privilégié l’efficacité immédiate au détriment de tout sentiment plus ou moins artificiel.
Ce soin se retrouve sur les arrangements qui enrichissent considérablement les morceaux et leur apportent une consistance supplémentaire. On trouve ainsi quelques sonorités électro, un zeste de piano, un peu de violon, quelques bruitages (vent, pluie,…). L’exécution de l’ensemble est extrêmement concluante ; les musiciens semblent connaître leur affaire. On saluera le travail du guitariste et producteur Tank Palamara : on peut toujours faire confiance à un mec qui s’appelle Tank !
Mais le véritable atout du groupe est sa chanteuse : si elle a été écartée du processus de composition, Francesca Chiara se rattrape sur son interprétation. Elle livre ici une véritable démonstration de variété d’intonations et d’émotions : chant Metal, refrain Pop, murmures, voix langoureuse, mélancolique ou coquine, elle nous fait la totale. Et tout cela avec une incroyable aisance rendant l’ensemble à la fois cohérent et crédible. Elle prend le contre-pied des jérémiades et des vocalises que l’on entend si souvent et elle rejoint l’objectif du groupe : l’efficacité.
The Angel And The Rain fait partie de ces rares albums qui ne contiennent aucune faiblesse ; il s’écoute d’un bout à l’autre avec plaisir – à condition, bien sûr, de ne pas être réfractaire à ce cocktail de styles. On pourra relever quelques petites perles qui sortent du lot : « Can You Hear Me » qui synthétise à lui seul le mélange Goth-Pop-Metal, « Vampire » et « Runaway » avec leurs refrains imparables, mais aussi la reprise réussie de DURAN DURAN, « The Chauffeur ».
