Fait-il bon vivre en Finlande ? Car avec SHAPE OF DISPAIRE et MY SHAMEFUL, on peut se poser la question tant les mystérieux personnages de ces groupes arrivent à fournir une musique aussi lente et dépressive. Ce style est qualifié de Doom/Death. On a donc bien compris que MY SHAMEFUL ne fait pas dans le festif comme ses compatriotes de FINNTROLL ou encore KORPIKLAANI. Au contraire, MY SHAMEFUL fait dans le morbide, le suicidaire, le dépressif… à glacer le sang de ses auditeurs !
Formé en 1999, le groupe enregistre quelques démos, puis propose un premier MCD To Hall I Hated sorti en 2001 chez Nocturnal Music, puis un premier album : Of All The Wrong Things chez Firebox Records en 2003. …Of Dusk est donc le second album du groupe, sorti à la fin de l’année 2004 chez Firedoom Music. Le duo composé de Sami Rautio (il fait tout sauf la batterie) et de Mark Napier (à la batterie donc…) arpente les sentiers sombres et tortueux d’un univers mourant.
Ce skeud est d’une beauté glaciale : le Doom est funéraire, suicidaire, mourant, ténébreux, décadent… Il possède tous les ingrédients pour être un classique du genre, à mettre à coté des albums des maîtres du genre comme CHAPE OF DISPAIRE et des premiers MY DYING BRIDE. MY SHAMEFUL a pompé dans les entrailles des premiers méfaits des groupes britanniques, tant au niveau des mélodies mélancoliques et ténébreuses que sur la structure et la durée des morceaux. Des influences des tous premiers albums d’ANATHEMA se font ressentir dans les arpèges de guitares. Le chant est grave au maximum, la voix est caverneuse. Les lignes de claviers sont tristes, plaintives et douloureuses, la basse est vomissante donnant un rythme funéraire et mourant : on se sent au fond du trou et on creuse encore et encore… aucun espoir pour ces âmes noires… le titre « And Waters Will Close » donne des frissons dans le dos, il est d’une angoisse maladive : le malaise est omniprésent : Somptueux !
Globalement les compositions sont lentes, lourdes, avec quelques passages un peu plus rapides comme la fin du morceau « One Lost ». Les mélodies sont dépressives au maximum, les riffs répétitifs sont joués par des guitares sous accordées, graves, avec un son extrêmement saturé. La section rythmique, lourde et pesante, sort directement des profondeurs abyssales du néant : en clair ce n’est pas la joie mais on le savait déjà : c’est un album de Doom/Death, un très bon album même.
