NECROPHOBIC, crée il y a plus de15 ans en Suède, revient avec un cinquième album, Hrimthursum. Le groupe d’origines Death (CARCASS et NAPALM DEATH entre autres) ajoutent de plus en plus d’influences Black à son Metal. L’univers de l’album reflète bien ces influences d’ailleurs, en nous accueillant avec « The Slaughter Of Baby Jesus ». S’en suit une dizaine de titres bien sombres, rapides à souhait et mêlant adroitement la furie Death (notamment au niveau du chant) aux ambiances Black. Les riffs de guitare sont loin de ce qu’un CARCASS pourraient faire, et se rapprochent bien plus d’hymnes Black façon IMMORTAL ou ZYKLON.
Les quatre suédois semblent influencés par la tradition Black de l’Europe du Nord, en proposant des rythmiques fleuves et entêtantes, sans trop jouer sur les brisures de rythmes. NECROPHOBIC pourrait être tout à fait assimilé à un groupe de Black ! Les claviers, ambiances et voix féminines (sur « Age Of Chaos » et « Hrimthursum ») renforcent cette impression. Par contre le chant de Tobias Sidegård est résolument Death, agressif et puissant. Et même si le mixage l’a placé peut être un peut trop en retrait, son énergie détone tout au long de l’album pour nuancer la noirceur de la musique.
Ce cinquième album de NECROPHOBIC enfonce le clou de leur réputation de groupe original, qui a su prendre le meilleur du Black et du Death pour créer un Metal hybride malsain, sombre et guerrier. Les morceaux sont toutefois un peu longuets et l’on peut facilement se lasser avant la fin de l’heure de musique présente sur Hrimthursum. Les adeptes du Black y trouveront certainement plus de satisfaction que les Death/Thrasheux…
