Le Stoner reste un genre assez peu pratiqué dans nos vertes contrées d’Europe du Nord. Il faut dire qu’il est difficile de faire de sa musique un amas de caillasses rougeâtres et brûlantes lorsqu’on habite un pays ou la neige et le froid dominent. C’est pourtant ce qu’a fait DOZER, natif de Suède. Ainsi le groupe fête dignement ses 10 ans d’existence, avec leur quatrième opus Throught The Eyes Of Heathens. Et c’est l’auditeur qui reçoit le cadeau…
Aucune fioriture, l’album tranche directement dans le vif en débutant avec un riff Stoner terriblement efficace. Il est difficile de s’empêcher de battre la mesure tellement ce début est entraînant. L’ensemble rend magistralement bien, une batterie très imposante au rendu impeccable, une guitare au son terriblement chaud, et une basse qui fini d’alourdir tout ça. La voix ne tardera pas à débarquer avec ses Rangers, offrant une couleur à la croisée entre John Garcia (Ex-KYUSS) et James Keenan (TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE). Après cette première compo efficace mais assez classique, on reste plus que motivé pour découvrir la suite.
On restera finalement toujours dans le même objectif d’efficacité. DOZER ne cherche pas à révolutionner le genre. Cependant au fil des titres, on parvient à discerner une vraie identité au sein de leur musique. C’est très agréable d’avoir à faire à un vrai groupe et pas à un remake de KYUSS ou MONSTER MAGNET, les fondateurs du genre. Et puis on remarque également l’intégration de sonorité qui différent un peu du Stoner habituel, comme sur « Until Man Exists No More » où Troy Sanders (MASTODON) vient prêter sa voix, ou encore sur la longue « Big Sky Theory » avec un mélange Noise et Southern Rock très sympathique.
Même si on est pas au même niveau d’inspiration et d’innovation que le grand Josh Homme de KYUSS, on arrive a écouter ici un album de Stoner très agréable et ma foi intéressant. Avis aux amateurs…
