Les Suédois frappent très fort avec ce nouvel album qui concentre toutes les qualités dont on les savait capables. Tout y est : la hargne d’un Sleaze Rock incisif, les rythmiques assassines, les mélodies ultra efficaces et, bien sûr, les refrains dévastateurs.
HARDCORE SUPERSTAR a parfaitement appréhendé le Rock des 80’s et nous balance aux oreilles une recette diablement efficace qui supporte parfaitement le poids des années.
Le chant éraillé et braillard de Jocke Berg fait inévitablement penser à Jeff Keith ce qui nous donne parfois l’illusion d’entendre du TESLA. Certaines de ses intonations rappellent aussi à Steven Pearcy ; en particulier sur “Hateful” qui semble sortir du catalogue de RATT.
Conformément à ce que ce style impose, les compositions sont simples ; pourtant le groupe parvient à apporter une étonnante diversité à son album. Tout en restant fidèles à leur style de prédilection, les Suédois déplient un éventail assez large qui va du Sleaze Rock pur jus au Hard Rock mélodique. Leur musique fait penser à beaucoup de (bonnes) choses pourtant il serait injuste de se focaliser sur les ressemblances que l’on peut trouver ça et là avec TESLA ou MOTLEY CRUE (ou disons MURDERDOLLS pour les plus jeunes et/ou les ignares !), car se serait passer à côté de créations incontestablement bien ficelées. Et même les mauvaises langues devront admettre que les groupes auxquels HARDCORE SUPERSTAR fait référence sont des monuments du Hard Rock des 80’s.
La production trouve le juste chemin entre hommage au passé et son actuel. Même les paroles sont soignées avec beaucoup d’ironie. Bref, achetez cet album !
