FATE avait connu un certain succès dans les années 80 avec un Hard FM influencé par la vague Glam de l’époque. D’album en album, les Danois sont parvenus à faire évoluer leur musique mais ce gain de maturité ne leur a pas permis de survivre au désaveu de ce genre musical par le public. Après 16 ans de silence, le groupe revient et il n’a pas oublié les bonnes recettes.
Dès les premières notes, on sent une certaine ambition, une volonté de faire réagir l’auditeur ; cela durera tout au long de l’album.
FATE nous replonge dans les années 80 mais dans un registre assez différent de celui qu’il avait exploré par le passé. Le groupe dose savamment l’équilibre entre riffs et mélodies afin de parvenir à un cocktail envoûtant qui passe volontiers du Hard FM au Heavy mélodique. Ainsi sur “Memories Won’t Die”, les guitares incisives ne cessent de marteler tandis que le chant nous entraîne dans une mélodie accrocheuse avec un contre-chant sur le refrain. On peut observer le même type de contraste sur “Toxic” ou sur “Heaven’s Crying Too” plus lent et lourd.
La construction des chansons est extrêmement classique et, avouons-le, l’originalité n’est pas la qualité première de cet album. En revanche son efficacité est évidente.
Le chant aiguë et rocailleux de Per Johansson peut faire penser à Udo et surtout à Torben Askholm de leurs compatriotes d’ANUBIS GATE ; il n’est pas étranger à la réussite de cet album.
Les solos de guitares, bien que discrets (difficile de succéder à Mattias Eklundh), sont également un exemple d’équilibre.
Ce nouvel opus, servi par une production exemplaire, fera le bonheur des amateurs de Hard Rock des 80’s qui n’y trouveront sans doute aucune faiblesse.
