286 est une jeune formation dont les membres viennent de Pittsburgh, du New Jersey et d’Argentine et qui reluque sur la scène old school. Ce premier EP est effectivement un concentré de Hard Rock Californien à l’ancienne comme ont pu le pratiquer des groupes comme GUNS’N ROSES avec lequel on peut noter certains points communs. Mais 286 va plus loin dans son retour aux sources puisque les structures musicales sont extrêmement simples, et le son particulièrement cru. Pas d’artifice, il s’agit du bon vieux Hard Rock d’antan, avec des vrais morceaux de décadence dedans. De son côté, la voix braillarde et hargneuse de Adam Joad donne un accent Punk très prononcé à l’ensemble.
On aura droit à quelques petites touches de Blues sur “Record Store Prophets” et sur “Broken Peace” dont les riffs d’intro font penser à SHAKRA, tandis que l’intro de “Dark Carnival” est un mélange de ROSE TATTOO et d’AC/DC.
On a déjà entendu ça, c’est vrai, mais on a surtout entendu pire ! Car les 5 titres de cet EP, bien que pas révolutionnaires, sont franchement agréables. Des riffs bien catchies, beaucoup d’énergie : 286 connaît les vielles recettes et les applique avec efficacité.
La production est franchement crue, elle correspond parfaitement au style du groupe. D’ailleurs la qualité du son est plus que convenable ; on peut juste reprocher aux chœurs d’être un peu en retrait.
Sur la pochette on peut lire : “No Protools were used during the recording of this EP”. Toute une philosophie...
Finalement, le principal défaut de Profiled, c’est d’être trop court.
