Trois ans après le génial mais très artisanal EP Breeding Death, BLOODBATH revient avec son tout premier album Resurrection Through Carnage. Et le moins que l’on puisse dire c’est que le résultat est à la hauteur de l’attente suscité par les 3 titres précédents.
Composé de membres venant de ce qui se fait de mieux au niveau de la scène Death suédoise, BLOODBATH c’est avant tout le side project de quatre potes : Dan Swäno, Mikael Akerfelt, Ander Nyström et Jonas Rentse. Un side-project dont le but, non dissimulé et assumé est de rendre un hommage appuyé à la scène Death Metal scandinave, plus précisément du début des années 90 et de ses fers de lance ENTOMBED et DISMEMBER.
Le son du groupe lorgne du coté de ses glorieux anciens, un son gras comme une barquette de frites, on accorde les guitares un ton au dessous et on balance la sauce ! Old school jusqu’au bout des riffs, BLOODBATH aligne 10 perles à la gloire du Metal de la mort, jamais sans manquer d’originalité, ni verser dans la redondance.
Là ou on aurait pu croire à un manque d’imagination, le groupe revisite le son Death des 90’s et le met sans complexe à la sauce 2002 grâce à la production moderne et au savoir faire de Swano . Breaks ravageurs sur « So You Die », accélérations démoniaques sur le titre d’ouverture « Ways To The Grave », déluge de blast beat sur l’éreintant « Like Fire »… Pas de répits une minute durant les quarante petites minute de cet album intemporel qui donne tout simplement l’impression d’être propulsé d’une décennie en arrière. Il est bien dommage que la scène ne soit pas la priorité des membres du groupe, car on en redemande. Culte.
