En dépit d’un succès d’estime dû à quelques très bons albums et au fait qu’un certain Jason Newsted officiait en tant que bassiste, FLOTSAM AND JESTAM n’est jamais parvenu à atteindre les sommets. Le groupe a raté toutes les opportunités, manqué ses rendez-vous avec le succès et, hormis les quelques fans restés fidèles depuis la grande époque, il n’y a plus grand monde pour écouter ces ricains à côté de leurs pompes.
Ce nouvel album enfonce le clou par sa médiocrité. En premier lieu c’est le son affreux qui surprend. On en est presque à penser qu’il s’agit d’une réédition d’un vieil album inédit ! La production s’est également dépassé pour bâcler le tout puisqu’il faut tendre l’oreille pour entendre les riffs ; la batterie est plate et le chant (plat, lui aussi) occupe le premier plan de façon trop prononcée. De toute évidence ce deal avec un nouveau label n’a pas été l’affaire du siècle.
Du coup, on n’a pas vraiment envie de faire l’effort d’écouter intensivement cet album dans l’espoir d’en sortir quelque chose de bon. Et c’est dommage, car il y a de bonnes choses qui, avec un gros son, auraient donné un bon résultat. Mais nous en sommes tellement loin.
Et, pour finir, une piste cachée qui aurait pu le rester !
