The Flesh est le premier album de THE ORDER OF APOLLYON, le nouveau jouet de l’infatigable BST (AOSOTH, ex-ABORTED, ex-GARWALL, ex-etc, etc.). Il ne faut pas s’y méprendre, car malgré son line up regroupant des musiciens ayant tous une certaine expérience, THE ORDER OF APOLLYON ne veut pas se définir comme un all-star-band ou un projet parallèle de BST. Pourtant ce dernier a confirmé que l’album était déjà composé avant de former le line-up définitif. Sur cette galette on y retrouve donc (en plus de BST), à la guitare : James Mcllroy (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH), à la basse Peter Benjamin d’AKERCOCKE, et Daniel Wilding (ABORTED) à la batterie.
Les présentations sont faites… passons maintenant au contenu de cet opus. The Flesh est un album qui développe un concept à l’image et au contenu assez spirituel. Musicalement, les influences sont à chercher du coté de BEHEMOTH (surtout) et de DISSECTION et IMMORTAL. Ce savoureux mélange de Black/Death est très agréable, d’autant plus que les structures des morceaux ne sont pas conventionnelles et rappelle parfois DEATHSPELL OMEGA.
Après une très courte intro, les titres s’enchaînent, massifs, puissants, les riffs sont efficaces. Assez brutal et rentre-dedans, le début de l’album est bougrement couillu avec au passage, deux petits invités bien connus Mkm et Inr. sont présent sur « Ich Bin Das Licht », puis c’est au tour de Thebon de KEEP OF KALESSIN de venir participer à « Word ».
Ce ne serait que trop réducteur que d’assimiler The Flesh à du brut massif, le coté mélodique, voir rock n roll n’est pas en reste avec des titres catchy comme : « Four Beasts » ou « Never » mais le naturel revient au galop et on a droit aussi à du brutal Death comme sur « Flesh Of Yhvh » ! Les structures des morceaux sont souvent complexes, mais toujours cohérentes. Les changements de rythmes abrupts accroissent la qualité de l’opus, ce The Flesh est presque une tuerie : agressif, martial, puissant, carré, agressif : rien que ça ! Il faut aussi souligner que le travail de Dan Wilding est assez remarquable, d’autant plus que le mixage valorise la batterie.
L’album fini en apothéose avec le titre « L’Orgueil », alternant les ambiances, les nuances, les passages déchirants avec d’autres purement brutal : jouissif ! En plus, au fil des écoutes, cet album se dévoile, se développe, et continu de surprendre…
