Enregistrée au Noumatrouff en 2006, Agon est la première démo de la formation mulhousienne forte sympathique du même nom. Une démo 3 titres d’une durée totale d’à peine 13 minutes. 13 minutes de hargne et de violence comme le laisse déjà présager l’artwork, plutôt morbide, constituée de nombreux cranes délicatement posés les uns à coté des autres dans des teintes fortes joviales, rouges et noires.
Le disque débute avec « Righter Of Wrong », bon morceau de Death Metal assez traditionnel, lourd et très énervé. Celui-ci démarre par un extrait de film. Ne me demandez pas lequel, je n’en sais rien. Puis les choses deviennent plus sérieuses. Le growl de Reg, terriblement lourd et assez lent, nous offre un contraste assez efficace avec les riffs super énergiques et la déferlante d’assauts de double pédale que nous livre Oliv, batteur de la formation. J’adhère. S’ensuivent « No Return », et son rythme un peu plus Thrash, avant de terminer sur « Human Scab » et sa lourdeur monumentale. La production de ce disque est tout simplement impeccable pour une démo, et même s’il est difficile de juger un groupe sur trois titres, je dirais tout simplement que ça envoie ! Il y a une bestialité et une rage sans équivoque qui se dégage de ses trois morceaux.
Pour un coup d’essai, il n’y a rien a redire. C’est efficace et de très bonne facture, dans la lignée des pionniers du genre tels NAPALM DEATH ou encore BOLT THROWER. Agon est donc une démo puissante. On regrettera juste sa durée un peu trop expéditive et un léger manque d‘originalité dans les morceaux, mais qu’importe puisque ça arrache nos tympans et qu’à mon humble avis, c’est le but escompté.
